Village Nurseries regards snack time and meal times as an important part of the pre-school day. Eating represents a social time for children and adults and helps children to learn about healthy eating. Children are encouraged to eat fresh fruit and raw vegetables in a variety of ways on a daily basis accompanied by milk or water. Please let our Managers know if your child has any specific dietary requirements.

Snack time is an ideal time for children to gain interpersonal and social skills at an early age in their lives as well as learning the importance of good manners, and respecting the views of others.

We are delighted that many of our parents/careers have contributed to our snack time by demonstrating foods from around the world and by bringing in traditional foods that relate to a specific religious festival.

Our parents/careers will be asked to fill in various forms about their child including a health form which highlights any allergies of food intolerances. Following a discussion with the pre-school manager a formal risk assessment will be completed followed by a care plan that is discussed with the parent/career and signed. Our staff will all be made aware of a child’s allergies and will be provided with accurate information with all children having individual cards with any allergies noted.

Snack time is treated as a fun activity and children are spoken to about the importance of eating a healthy diet and taking regular exercise. We do feel that if children are encouraged to sample healthy snacks and physical challenges they are more likely to adopt a healthier lifestyle in the future.
